Doriane Pin, Mercedes Formula 1 development driver and 2025 F1 Academy champion, has called on young girls aspiring to a career in motorsport to "dare to believe" in their ambitions. In an interview with Mercedes In Convo With Kids, the 22-year-old shared her personal journey and offered clear guidance to the next generation.
Pin's racing journey began at the age of nine when she tried karting. In 2016, at 12, she started competing in the national championship. Over three years in karting, she finished 10th and 5th in the junior class before winning the female category in 2019. Since then, she has progressed through various series, including the Renault Clio Cup, Le Mans Cup, Formula 4, and F1 Academy. Her breakthrough came when she won the 2025 F1 Academy title, earning her a development driver role with Mercedes F1.
A historic moment occurred when Pin became the first woman to drive a Mercedes F1 car, the W12, at Silverstone in 2026. Beyond her Mercedes duties, she races in the LMP2 Pro-Am class in the European Le Mans Series with Duqueine and serves as a development driver for Peugeot in the WEC and Citroen in Formula E.
When asked what advice she would give to young girls dreaming of becoming racing drivers, Pin emphasised the importance of self-belief. "You should believe in your dreams. It's what drives you every day to reach it. So if your dream is to go to the greatest races in the world, just go for it. Trust yourself, enjoy, dare to believe," she said.
Pin also revealed what she would tell her younger self: "To trust yourself because when you're a bit younger, you don't think that it's possible and then you do it, and then you realise that it was easily reachable. So, you always have to think ahead."
Pin's story serves as a real inspiration for many young girls looking to enter motorsport. Through hard work and belief, she proves that there are no gender barriers in pursuing a passion for racing. Her advice is simple yet powerful: dare to dream and trust yourself.
