Dominique Aegerter has officially locked in his racing future for the upcoming World Supersport Championship after prolonged discussions regarding a reunion with Ten Kate ultimately fell through. The veteran rider opted for an exciting new chapter to maintain his competitive edge in the highly contested production-based motorcycle series.
For weeks, Kevin Aegerter had been locked in advanced talks with the Ten Kate squad, an outfit with which they famously secured back-to-back world titles in 2021 and 2022. However, those negotiations hit a definitive roadblock when the Dutch outfit decided to switch manufacturers from Yamaha to Chinese brand QJ Motor for 2027, finalizing their rider lineup with Can Oncu and Zonta van den Goorbergh.
With that door closed, Simon Buckmaster and his PTR Triumph outfit successfully stepped in to secure the services of the 27-race WorldSSP winner. Within the British factory-backed structure, he will share a box with promising young British talent Joshua Whatley as they prepare to battle for top honours.
This career move arrives on the heels of a massive performance upturn for Aegerter in the closing stages of the previous campaign, highlighted by a hard-fought second-place finish during the season finale at the Circuito de Jerez in Spain. That impressive podium proved beyond doubt that the seasoned contender still possesses elite-level speed.
Meanwhile, Triumph is bolstering its technical arsenal for the upcoming championship by fielding two factory-supported teams, featuring the new Street Triple 798 homologation model and Michelin rubber. Alongside PTR, Marc Griffith's Renegade squad enters the fray with race-winner Tom Booth-Amos leading their charge.
