The return of Dominique Aegerter to the Supersport World Championship paddock finally bore sweet fruit after enduring a challenging first half of the 2026 season with Kawasaki. The former world champion struggled to unlock the full potential of his machine early on, admitting that a string of difficult weekends severely tested his mental resilience and confidence.
The turning point for the veteran rider arrived following productive private tests in Cremona and a steady weekend at Estoril, culminating in a breakthrough performance at Jerez. During race two, which was red-flagged on lap 12 following a crash involving Jorge Navarro, Aegerter delivered a vintage performance to claim a hard-fought second-place finish.
Kawasaki celebrated a stellar 1-2 finish as Jeremy Alcoba claimed victory, while Matteo Ferrari rounded out the podium in third. The incredibly fierce competition in WorldSSP was on full display, with the top fifteen riders blanketed within half a second throughout the gripping encounter.

“I was already able to catch up to the top five by Saturday, it was tough but I could control what the bike was doing,” reflected Aegerter. He noted that after months of self-doubt regarding training, fitness, and package competitiveness, relentless teamwork in refining engine braking, throttle connection, and chassis settings finally paid off.
“When you doubt yourself, your weight, your training, and even think about quitting, everything becomes extremely difficult. The last two rounds suited the track and our bike better,” he added. Read our in-depth analysis of the 2026 WorldSSP season and get all the latest updates on Sportrik.
