Japanese manufacturer Honda has officially confirmed its rider lineup for the upcoming 850cc and Pirelli tire era in MotoGP. HRC has announced that Diogo Moreira has been selected to join Fabio Quartararo at the factory Honda team for the 2027 season.
The Brazilian rider secured the factory seat ahead of fellow rookie signing after displaying impressive form in his debut premier-class campaign. His rising stock was heavily highlighted by delivering Honda's first official podium of the season during the Motegi Sprint race, turning heads within the management.
The reigning Moto2 champion also caught the attention of HRC engineers during the latest 850cc and Pirelli test at the Red Bull Ring last month. With this promotion, Moreira becomes the first Brazilian to race for the factory Honda squad since Alex Barros back in 2004.

HRC's decision means that David Alonso will take over Moreira's vacant seat at LCR next year. The Colombian, currently fifth in the Moto2 standings, will partner alongside Johann Zarco and make his premier-class debut during the post-season Valencia test in December.
This massive shake-up also sees current HRC riders moving on to new manufacturer projects for 2027. Joan Mir is set to join Gresini Ducati, while Luca Marini will make the switch to Tech3 KTM for the upcoming regulatory era.
