The 2027 MotoGP rider market has taken a major turn as LCR Honda officially announced that Diogo Moreira will exit the squad at the conclusion of the upcoming 2026 season. This crucial announcement effectively clears the path for the Brazilian rookie to make a high-profile switch to the factory HRC squad.
By stepping up to the factory outfit, Moreira is widely expected to spearhead the Japanese manufacturer's technical project alongside Fabio Quartararo. This formidable pairing injects fresh energy into the factory garage as both riders prepare to tackle the demanding prototype machinery under the upcoming sporting regulations.
Meanwhile, the domino effect of this major lineup change opens the door for a fresh face in the independent garage. Incoming rookie sensation David Alonso is slated to take over Moreira's vacant seat for the 2027 campaign, slotting in directly alongside seasoned veteran Johann Zarco to provide a balanced mix of youth and experience.
Reflecting on the departure, LCR team boss Lucio Cecchinello expressed immense pride in the young rider's rapid progression within the premier class. "Diogo is an incredibly talented and fast rider, and it has been a pleasure to see him take on the challenge of MotoGP," Cecchinello stated regarding the squad's rising star.
Praising his commitment, the Italian team principal added, "He has shown great determination, a strong desire to learn, and the speed to fight at the highest level. We have shared a special season together, both on and off the track, and we would like to thank him for his hard work and commitment. We wish him all the best for the future." Official confirmation regarding the complete lineup details is anticipated imminently.
