MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Diogo Moreira of LCR Honda has described MotoGP 2026 as requiring an almost “crazy” mindset, despite delivering a consistent points-scoring start to his rookie season in the premier class.
The 21-year-old Brazilian has finished 13th in each of the opening three rounds at Buriram, Goiania, and COTA, demonstrating early stability following his step up from Moto2. However, the transition has exposed a significant increase in physical demand, speed, and race intensity compared to his previous experience.
“MotoGP is another world. It’s impossible to compare to anything else,” Moreira told MotoGP.com.
“The first time I rode the MotoGP bike, my mind and body were not prepared for the speed.”
He highlighted top speeds exceeding 340 km/h as a defining factor, combined with the requirement to maintain consistent lap performance under sustained pressure. The margin for error remains minimal, with riders needing to operate at the limit throughout every lap.
“We need to push all the time. When we crash, we have to forget and try again. I would say we are super crazy,” he added.
Moreira’s path to MotoGP began with an early career move from Brazil to Europe alongside his father, a decision that allowed him to develop within the competitive European racing structure. Exposure to top-level riders and circuits played a key role in accelerating his progression toward the premier class.
“You need talent, but more than that, passion for the sport,” he explained.
“Coming to Europe and training with MotoGP riders helped me learn a lot.”
Currently, Moreira sits 16th in the 2026 MotoGP standings, holding an eight-point advantage over fellow rookie Toprak Razgatlioglu of Pramac Yamaha. The rookie battle has emerged as a notable subplot in the early phase of the season.
With the championship heading to its first European round at Jerez, Moreira’s continued adaptation will be closely monitored. His consistent start provides a foundation for further progression as he refines both physical conditioning and technical understanding of MotoGP machinery.
