Dino Beganovic roared to Formula 2 pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix, edging out Alex Dunne and Rafael Camara in a hectic qualifying session at the Madring, Madrid. The new circuit immediately showed its teeth, with red flags disrupting the session multiple times.
From the start, drivers had to adapt quickly. There was only one free practice session before qualifying, and it was already marred by incidents. Nikola Tsolov, the championship leader, was fastest in FP, followed by Nico Varrone and Rafael Villagomez. But qualifying was a different story.
Emmerson Fittipaldi was the first to leave the pit lane, followed by the other 20 drivers. Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak could not participate after a terrible fire in practice. That incident was a stark reminder of the risks at Madring.

Qualifying had only been running for 23 minutes and 56 seconds when Kush Maini lost control at Turn 16, spun, and hit the wall. The red flag was out. At almost the same time, Sebastian Montoya also spun and damaged his PREMA. Varrone had posted the fastest time of 1:58.309 before the interruption, but that was clearly not representative.
After the session resumed, drivers had to maximize every opportunity. Fittipaldi set an early benchmark of 1:47.679, then Alex Dunne put in a solid lap. However, Beganovic flew with two purple sectors, though he nearly lost the car on the kerb. That mistake cost him the final sector. Tsolov then went faster with a 1:46.328, but the drama wasn't over.
Nico Varrone hit the barriers at Turn 19, triggering another red flag. The session was stopped and eventually not restarted, ensuring Beganovic took pole. This is Beganovic's first F2 pole, and it means a lot for the DAMS team. Meanwhile, Tsolov had to settle for second, followed by Dunne in third.
Qualifying at Madring proved that the circuit is highly challenging, and drivers must be extra careful. The race promises to be intense, with many drivers having the pace to win. Don't miss the action!
