MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Fabio di Giannantonio of VR46 Racing Team completed a consistent weekend at the 2026 Spanish MotoGP in Jerez with a third-place finish, while admitting regret over a key setup decision before the race.

The Ducati rider secured third in both qualifying and the race, carrying strong early-season momentum into the opening European round and moving up to third in the world championship standings.

“I’m super happy and proud of what we are doing in this first part of the season. We made a clear step in communication and our working method,” said di Giannantonio.

He also addressed the commonly held belief that the championship truly begins in Europe, noting that he was able to remain competitive at a circuit that has not historically suited him.

“There is this little legend that when you arrive in Europe, the championship starts for real. We were fast also here in Jerez, which is not one of my best tracks,” he added.

During the race, di Giannantonio dropped to fifth on the opening lap before moving into fourth after Marc Marquez crashed. He then overtook Jorge Martin to secure a podium position that he held to the finish.

Despite the result, the Italian admitted that reverting to his base setup before the race proved to be a missed opportunity, particularly in addressing ongoing understeer issues.

“We suffered a bit with understeer on this bike. In the Sprint we found something better, but in the warm-up I went back to my base setup because the feeling was good. Then in the race it was worse,” he explained.

He highlighted the need for further analysis to resolve the issue, especially at circuits like Jerez that demand precision and strong front-end performance.

“We need to understand how to remove this understeer. At Jerez everything is about precision because it’s a tight and technical track,” he said.

Following the result, di Giannantonio now sits around 30 points behind championship leader Marco Bezzecchi, with the post-race test at Jerez set to play a key role in improving performance ahead of the next round at Le Mans.
