MotoGP, Sportrik Media - David Alonso will officially step up to MotoGP with Honda from the 2027 season after signing a multi-year contract with Honda Racing Corporation.

The agreement confirms the Colombian rider as part of Honda’s long-term project for the beginning of MotoGP’s new 850cc regulation era. However, HRC has not yet announced which team Alonso will represent during his rookie season.

Two options remain open, with Honda able to place him directly in the factory Honda HRC Castrol squad or assign him to the satellite LCR team. The decision will help define the manufacturer’s complete rider structure for 2027.

Alonso first attracted major attention in the Grand Prix paddock by finishing third in the Moto3 standings during his rookie season in 2023. One year later, he dominated the lightweight class and secured the 2024 Moto3 world championship.

His development continued after moving into Moto2. During his second season in the intermediate category, Alonso claimed his first victory at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix and currently sits fourth in the 2026 championship battle.

Across his Moto3 and Moto2 career, Alonso has collected 20 victories, 30 podium finishes and nine pole positions. That record has strengthened his reputation as one of the most prominent young talents in the Grand Prix system.

The promotion to MotoGP will represent the biggest step of Alonso’s career. He will join Honda as the Japanese manufacturer attempts to rebuild its competitiveness through major technical changes and a revised rider structure for 2027.

Alonso is scheduled to make his debut on Honda’s 2027 motorcycle during the post-race Valencia Test following the Valencia Grand Prix. The outing will begin his adaptation to the power, electronics, tyres and technical demands of the premier class.

Honda must still decide whether Alonso will enter the factory team immediately or initially develop with LCR. Regardless of the final placement, the multi-year agreement ensures that the Colombian will become an important part of HRC’s MotoGP future.
