Danilo Petrucci Details Perfect Storm Nightmare in 2025 WorldSBK Season
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Danilo Petrucci feels he and BMW were victims of a "perfect storm" in 2026.

The ongoing world championship campaign has left a bitter narrative for Danilo Petrucci as he candidly defines his tenure with the German manufacturer as a perfect storm that derailed all pre-season ambitions.

The Italian rider arrived in the factory setup boasting a strong reputation as a multiple race winner, but the technical transition to a vastly different machine proved to be an immense hurdle right from the opening test sessions.

Troubles had already begun well before the competitive action commenced, with a completely rain-washed winter testing program leaving the squad on the back foot and desperately chasing crucial setup data.

Just as he was beginning to unlock his true potential and feel comfortable aboard the motorcycle, a heavy crash at Most struck hard and completely reset all the developmental progress he had achieved mid-season.

Reflecting on a tumultuous year following the conclusion of Race 2 at Jerez, he admitted that the severity of the accident made him seriously reconsider his racing future at 36 years of age.

With BMW, it was a perfect storm, said Danilo Petrucci, speaking to WorldSBK.com after Race 2 at Jerez. We had no testing, the bike is so different to what I was used to, and when we were starting to get faster, I got injured at the worst moment of the season.

When you have a bad accident like that where you can’t feel your legs, you start to think that at 36 years old, it’s not worth it, he explained regarding the psychological toll of the recovery period.

The physical trauma forced a shift in his mental focus toward health and longevity, arriving concurrently with the manufacturer's internal decision to steer their project in a different direction for the upcoming years.

From that moment on, in your brain, you start always thinking about your health, and BMW decided they wanted to move in another direction, he stated.

Despite the overwhelming cascade of setbacks throughout the championship calendar, the veteran competitor expressed deep gratitude toward every single team member for their unwavering dedication and emotional support.

Unfortunately, everything that could have gone wrong has gone wrong, but the team has been really nice to me, he continued. I don’t know how many hugs I’ve given out this weekend, everyone at BMW has given all we had. All I can say is thank you.

Looking ahead to the next chapter of his life, his primary ambition shifts away from pure competitive pressure toward a simpler pursuit of personal happiness and life satisfaction.

From here, all I can say about my future is that I want to be happy, that’s my lifelong dream. It’s not easy, but I just want to enjoy what life gives me, he concluded.
