Dani Holgado Fulfils MotoGP Dream with Gresini in 2027

Dani Holgado has described his move to Gresini Racing for the 2027 MotoGP season as the biggest dream of his life. The Spanish rider has become the first rookie officially confirmed for the premier-class grid in the new regulation era.

Holgado will step up to MotoGP after finishing as a Moto3 championship runner-up and securing a race victory in Moto2 during the 2026 season. He will join 2020 world champion Joan Mir in an entirely new Gresini rider line-up.

“I am very happy to join the MotoGP project of the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP Team. It is literally the dream of my life to race in the premier class, and doing it with a team like this makes it even better,” Holgado said.

The agreement represents the result of Holgado’s long progression through the junior categories. He acknowledged that the move will present a major challenge, particularly as MotoGP introduces 850cc engines and a new tyre supplier for the 2027 season.

“It is the result of a lot of effort and hard work over the years. I know it will be a huge challenge, but I am ready to grow both as a rider and as a person,” he said.

Holgado also thanked Gresini owner Nadia Padovani, the team, his family and everyone who supported his career. He stressed that he does not expect an easy transition but believes he is fully prepared for the demands ahead.

Holgado is expected to become one of several rookies moving into MotoGP in 2027. David Alonso, Izan Guevara, Senna Agius and Manuel Gonzalez have also been linked with potential promotions, while WorldSBK leader Nicolo Bulega could also enter the Rookie of the Year contest.

Holgado’s experience with Pirelli tyres in Moto2 may provide an early advantage because the Italian manufacturer will become MotoGP’s exclusive supplier in the 850cc era. His adaptation will nevertheless depend on understanding the greater power, aerodynamics, braking demands and technical complexity of the premier class.
