Gigi Dall'Igna could not hide his satisfaction. In the Misano paddock, after the San Marino Grand Prix, the Ducati General Manager watched Marc Marquez return to the top step of the podium and seize the championship lead. Just a week earlier, Marquez's physical condition was still in doubt. “Another good weekend after Aragon. Obviously, this one is even more important because we are playing at home, in front of our fans,” he told GPOne.
Success at Misano was not without hard work from the entire team. Ducati were predicted to struggle against Aprilia, historically strong at this circuit. “Misano is a track where Aprilia has always performed well. Last year they were also strong, so we expected difficulties. We didn't get pole, and they were very fast,” admitted Dall'Igna. But the race told a different story: Bezzecchi, who started from pole, crashed while leading, opening the door for Marquez.
For Dall'Igna, the mental factor was decisive. “The mind is fundamental. From now on we must be consistent and score as many points as possible without mistakes,” he stressed. He believes Marquez has shown incredible mental toughness. “As I said at the beginning of the year, time is on our side. Marc has to get used to all the mechanisms and things he needs to be fast on the bike again. I think he is doing very well.”
That praise is not without reason. Marquez is known for his ability to adapt quickly, even after injury. Now he leads the championship, something that seemed impossible just weeks ago. “He is very clear-headed and knows what is needed to turn things around,” added Dall'Igna.
On the other side, Ducati still has to face a bitter reality: Pecco Bagnaia crashed at Misano. “With Bagnaia we are in trouble, there's no denying it,” said Dall'Igna. Nevertheless, he stressed that the team must not panic. “We knew the situation was difficult at the start of the year, but time was on our side. We tried to stay calm, focused, and improve without making a mess. That's what usually happens when stress increases. I think we did well.”
Ducati are now in a better position, but Dall'Igna refuses to be complacent. “We haven't achieved anything yet. There are still seven races, a third of the season, and many things to be decided. As always, the championship ends in Valencia, so until then we must keep believing and working to come back.”
With Marquez's increasingly solid performance and Bagnaia struggling, Ducati are at a crossroads: on one hand they have the championship leader, on the other they must quickly restore the defending champion's form. The rest of the season will be the true test of the Italian team's consistency and composure.
