Cal Crutchlow has backed Pecco Bagnaia to overcome his current MotoGP struggles, insisting the Ducati rider remains "one of the best in this championship."
Bagnaia, a two-time MotoGP champion with 29 grand prix wins, slipped to fifth in last year's standings as new teammate Marc Marquez dominated. This season has been even tougher—winless so far and currently eighth in the championship.
The Italian is set to leave Ducati for Aprilia next year on a four-year deal, facing a new challenge with the RS-GP in the 850cc/Pirelli era. Crutchlow, speaking on the MotoGP world feed at Aragon, dismissed concerns about Bagnaia's form.
"People go through that in their career. It's as simple as that," said Crutchlow, now a replacement rider for Johann Zarco at LCR Honda. "It doesn't mean he's lost his talent, speed, or determination. He's just going through a bad period. When you're alone on the bike and don't have that feeling, it's difficult."
Crutchlow, a three-time MotoGP race winner, remains confident Bagnaia will return to the front. "There's no doubt he's still one of the best. He's young, super talented. I thoroughly think he'll be back at the front this year or in years to come."
"It's a tough watch sometimes, but hopefully he stays committed and he'll be back sooner rather than later," Crutchlow added, showing support for the struggling champion.
