Australian racing legend Craig Lowndes has highlighted the fierce tactical dynamics that dominated the closing stages of the Gold Coast 500, where team and manufacturer strategies took center stage in the paddock. The intense weekend featured controversial tactical calls, including Walkinshaw TWG Racing pulling Chaz Mostert behind Ryan Wood to help the Kiwi make the cut-off, much to Mostert's visible frustration.

Later in the race, strategic pit stops for two Chevrolets lifted Anton De Pasquale back above the cut-line, though both Erebus and PremiAir insisted the moves were driven by errors rather than pre-planned tactics. While regulations strictly prohibit third parties like manufacturers from imposing team orders, the rulebook does not actually ban one independent team from choosing to assist another.

With the remaining seven drivers in the Finals Series consisting of five from the Blue Oval alongside single entries from General Motors and Toyota, the competitive landscape has shifted dramatically. Addressing the current format, Lowndes noted in his column, "It’s a byproduct of the current Finals format, but team orders have always been around." He observed that teams have grown significantly smarter and wiser over the past twelve months in pulling the right tactical levers.

Looking ahead at the championship battle, Lowndes pointed out a glaring structural disadvantage for the dominant manufacturer. "You don’t need to be Nostradamus to forecast that the GM teams will help the GM car, and the Toyota teams will help the Toyota. The big problem Ford has is, who’s going to help who?" he stated, emphasizing the lack of a cohesive cross-team manufacturing pact among the remaining entries.

Lowndes suggested that Blanchard Racing Team, as the sole non-Finals squad remaining from their camp, holds a unique bargaining chip for negotiations. Meanwhile, internal management remains a headache for Triple Eight as they balance the championship hopes of Broc Feeney and Will Brown. As Lowndes warned from his own title-fighting experience, having two fast teammates always brings the curse of internal friction when safety cars and track positioning dictate the outcome.
