Amid a troubled Formula 2 campaign, Colton Herta savoured a full-circle moment by driving Cadillac's Formula 1 car at Circuit of the Americas, the exact venue of his breakthrough IndyCar victory back in March 2019 when he made history as the youngest ever race winner.
Transitioning from a comfortable seat in IndyCar with Andretti, Herta took a leap of faith into the unknown to pursue his ultimate Formula 1 dream. This journey involved juggling practice sessions, private tests, and a grueling Formula 2 stint with Hitech to secure the necessary superlicence points.
However, the secondary single-seater campaign has proven remarkably difficult. Herta currently languishes in 19th position with only 26 points to his name, having failed to score significantly since the Belgian round prior to the summer break, leaving him with mounting questions as the season moves toward its conclusion.

"I'm just disappointed with how the year's gone. It's not been good at all," admitted the 26-year-old driver regarding his struggles in the feeder series, prompting both driver and team to seek crucial superlicence points through strategic FP1 outings.
Getting behind the wheel in Austin offered a much-needed morale boost. Putting aside his championship frustrations and lingering questions regarding 2027, Herta fully embraced the rare opportunity in front of his home crowd.
"It was very enjoyable. It felt super special to be able to do it here at home, in front of the home crowd, with the Cadillac. It's been a while since I've been here, seven years since IndyCar was here last, but it hasn't changed much, and it was nice to see progress," Herta said.
