French manufacturer Citroen has once again stunned the global automotive industry by resurrecting one of its most legendary icons at the 2026 Paris Motor Show. The vehicle famously known historically as an umbrella on wheels has now been reborn as a fully electric concept that embraces a radical philosophy of reduction in weight, battery size, and mechanical complications. Top executive Xavier Chardon emphasized that this reinvention is not merely about copying the past, but rather channeling the original core values of simplicity and accessibility into the modern era.
This ambitious project features a compact overall length of 3,76 meters—making it even shorter than the original classic—and is targeted to retail around 15.000 euros to comply with upcoming European light vehicle regulations. Through a strict subtraction mindset, engineers successfully trimmed unnecessary mass, oversized battery packs, and complex digital integrations that often plague modern urban vehicles with excessive weight and inflated price tags.
The exterior aesthetic successfully blends nostalgic charm with functional modern design, showcasing signature round headlamps, a manually rollable canvas roof, and 18-inch steel wheels. Inside the cabin, drivers are greeted by a minimalist cylindrical dashboard layout featuring a traditional single-spoke steering wheel and intuitive controls. Quirky details include a removable portable speaker system and clever interior storage spaces that pay homage to the utilitarian origins of the historic agricultural transport.

This unique concept successfully fills the void in the modern urban electric vehicle segment, offering a nimble alternative that rejects the industry trend of heavier, oversized crossovers. By focusing on lightness and character, the design philosophy ensures that driving remains an engaging experience rather than just operating a heavily connected household appliance on four wheels.
While the original utilitarian classic was built to serve working-class citizens rather than appeal to wealthy collectors, this modern battery-electric interpretation attempts to fulfill a similar societal mission without falling into the trap of pure museum-piece nostalgia. Production hurdles and strict market regulations still lie ahead, but this bold statement proves that true automotive innovation does not always require massive dimensions and astronomical costs.
