Former Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner has openly revealed that he suffered from panic attacks towards the end of his tenure in Formula 1. Beneath his composed exterior on the pit wall during 21 seasons leading the Milton Keynes squad, the 52-year-old was quietly dealing with severe mental health challenges.
In a recent interview, Horner admitted that he initially dismissed these health episodes as mere fatigue or the result of drinking too much coffee on stressful days. However, after undergoing medical evaluations, he discovered that the dizzy spells and shallow breathing were actually clinical anxiety.
"I didn't know what it was," Horner stated in an interview with The Guardian. "You suddenly feel dizzy and conscious of your breathing, and you think there's something strange going on. I put it down to having had too much coffee on an oppressive, muggy, thundery day."

After experiencing the symptoms again, medical professionals confirmed there was nothing physically wrong with him, identifying the root cause as anxiety driven by an unsustainable workload. Horner noted that his body was simply telling him that he was pushing far too hard, and he has now learned to recognize the warning signs and regulate his breathing.
Addressing his long-time rival Toto Wolff, Horner expressed deep admiration for the Mercedes boss's previous openness about his own struggles with clinical depression. Horner praised Wolff for showing immense courage in discussing mental health challenges within the high-pressure motorsport environment.
Currently remaining on the sidelines following his departure from Red Bull, Horner recently dismissed ongoing paddock rumors linking him to a potential future role with Ferrari. Read our in-depth analysis on this developing story and stay updated with all the latest paddock news.
