Formula 1, Sportrik MediaChristian Horner is reportedly in serious negotiations for a return to Formula 1 via Alpine, potentially involving the acquisition of a minority stake from investor group Otro Capital.

The former Red Bull team principal was dismissed in July 2025 after two decades at the helm and is currently on gardening leave until around April 2026.

In addition, Dutch outlet De Telegraaf reports that Horner is backed by a group of investors aiming to purchase the 24 percent stake in Alpine held by Otro Capital, which is rumored to be open to selling the shares.

A deeper analysis highlights Horner’s close ties with Flavio Briatore, Alpine’s executive advisor, as a key factor. When questioned, Horner neither confirmed nor denied the discussions but declined further comment.

“Horner did not deny talks with Renault or Alpine,” the report stated.

However, Alpine endured a difficult 2025 season, finishing last in the Constructors’ Championship—the team’s worst result in history. The switch to Mercedes power units from 2026 is expected to aid recovery in the new regulation era.

This potential move could place Horner in a high-level ownership or management role, collaborating with Briatore to revitalise the Enstone-based outfit.

The prospect of Horner’s F1 comeback is highly intriguing, given his proven track record of transforming Red Bull into a dominant force. If the deal materialises, it would rank among the most sensational transfers ahead of the 2026 season.
