Christian Horner Claims Toto Wolff Has It Easy in F1 While Clarifying Ferrari Stance
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Ferrari had firmly shut the door on Horner replacing Vasseur

Former Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner believes that Toto Wolff and Mercedes have had it quite easy in Formula 1 since his departure from the reigning world champions. The latest regulatory era has seen the Brackley squad reclaim the benchmark position, while the competitive landscape at the front of the grid lacks the fierce, personal rivalry that once defined the sport.

Speaking exclusively to The Guardian, Horner pointed out that Wolff is currently cruising without a proper adversary. He emphasized that McLaren CEO Zak Brown is limited in his ability to challenge Mercedes due to using customer power units from the German manufacturer, stripping the paddock of intense political and on-track friction.

"Toto’s got it quite easy at the moment," he told The Guardian. "Zak Brown is compromised because he’s using Toto’s engine, so he can’t ruffle feathers. All sport needs rivalry, whether it’s Ferguson and Wenger, Mourinho and Guardiola. It percolates and polarises. I used that to galvanise good people to take on Mercedes."

Amid ongoing speculation regarding his next career move, Horner also addressed persistent rumors linking him to a high-profile role at Ferrari. Previous comments had sparked intense media discussion surrounding current team boss Fred Vasseur, prompting the former Red Bull chief to fully clarify his position regarding the iconic Italian outfit.

"Fred Vasseur is an experienced guy. He’s done a decent job. But I, more than anyone, know the pressures of running a competitive organisation. My comments got taken out of context," Horner explained. He concluded that any future return to F1 must involve ownership stakes, meaning a move to Maranello is off the table, leaving him content to evaluate opportunities that align with his ultimate winning ambitions.
