Former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has publicly admitted that he applied direct pressure on former Formula 1 race director Michael Masi to restart the dramatic 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix title decider.
The 2021 F1 season delivered one of the most controversial climaxes in motorsport history as Max Verstappen snatched the world championship away from Lewis Hamilton on the very final lap at Yas Marina.
Writing candidly in his new book Drive, Horner detailed the tense moments under the late safety car period when he realized several lapped cars were standing between his driver and the championship leader.

"Why aren't we getting these lapped cars out of the way? You only need one racing lap," Horner recalled asking over the team radio to race control before the restart procedure.
Masi's eventual decision to allow a select group of cars to unlap themselves set up a sprint finish on fresher tires, allowing Verstappen to overtake his rival and secure his maiden world title amidst intense global debate.
