Late-race drama unfolded at the Charles Leclerc and Liam Lawson battle during the closing stages of the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos. The fierce wheel-to-wheel contest for position ultimately drew the attention of race stewards, leading to a post-race penalty that reshuffled the final points-paying positions.
Starting down in 14th on the grid, the Ferrari star staged a resilient recovery drive, utilizing a highly competitive final stint on intermediate tyres to slice through the field. The flashpoint arrived on the penultimate lap as he launched an aggressive overtaking maneuver, resulting in minor contact with the VCARB machine at the apex of Turn 12 Juncao.
The pair continued their intense scrap until the Scuderia driver finally forced his way past exiting the Senna S complex, crossing the finish line in seventh place. However, both drivers were summoned to the stewards' office, where officials ruled that the initial contact directly aided the subsequent overtake by disrupting the rival car.

Taking into account the tricky wet track conditions and the relatively minor nature of the impact, race control opted for a five-second time penalty rather than a harsher sanction. This retroactive punishment dropped the Monegasque driver from seventh down to eighth place in the official classification, promoting his rival into the seventh spot.
Further down the order, Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton finished ninth after being lapped earlier in the chaotic race. The contentious penalty adds another layer of intense paddock debate as the championship heads toward its final showdowns.
