World motorcycle racing legend Casey Stoner, who dominated his home races with six consecutive victories on Ducati and Honda machinery from 2007 until his retirement at the end of 2012, admitted that he could never truly relax around the legendary seaside circuit.
In a YouTube interview alongside fellow Australian rider Chris Vermeulen previewing the Phillip Island event, Stoner discussed why the track ultimately suited his unique riding style so well.
According to the former champion, trying to put the power down effectively in MotoGP was always the hardest task while keeping the tyres alive throughout the entire race distance.

The high-speed nature and low grip conditions allowed his motorcycle to move and slide around more naturally, which heavily played into his childhood dirt track background.
Despite his phenomenal success and having a corner named in his honour, the Australian insisted that he constantly had to practice strict risk management around the circuit.
He noted how quickly the venue can bite a rider, turning a successful run into a high-speed crash in a split second without warning.
Side-on winds hitting through Turn 3 named after him or Turn 1 Doohan added another layer of extreme difficulty to mastering the iconic layout.
Ultimately, he described the venue as a brutal track if a rider gets things slightly wrong, yet incredibly rewarding when everything falls precisely into place.
Meanwhile, free practice sessions for the upcoming Australian motorcycle Grand Prix weekend at Phillip Island are scheduled to kick off on Friday morning.
