A bitter pill had to be swallowed when the main MotoGP race at the iconic Australian venue was officially cancelled due to severe weather conditions. Heavy fog and extremely poor visibility meant that the emergency medical rescue helicopter could not operate safely, forcing race control to scrap Sunday's grand prix entirely.
This unfortunate turn of events brought an abrupt end to the weekend, leaving fans without the thrilling premier class race they had eagerly anticipated. The riders were only able to complete a single lap together behind the safety car before stepping out of their machines, making Saturday's sprint race the final competitive world championship event at the historic circuit.
Series CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta expressed his deep sorrow over the anticlimactic farewell to a venue that has been a championship staple since 1989. While acknowledging the overwhelming disappointment felt by everyone involved, he strongly defended the uncompromising safety protocols.

"La seguridad siempre debe ser lo primero. Pero eso no hace que este resultado sea menos decepcionante. Para los espectadores, esperabamos una asistencia record, y para los aficionados que viajaron hasta aqui para esta despedida, este no es el final que ninguno de nosotros deseaba," Ezpeleta stated regarding the cancellation, as reported by Motosan.es.
Looking ahead, the championship prepares to embrace a brand new chapter as the event relocates to the streets of Adelaide starting in 2027. Ezpeleta remains optimistic that the move will bring world championship racing closer to urban audiences while honoring the rich legacy built by generations of Australian racing legends.
