Carlos Sainz has shared his displeasure at appearing to be on the wrong end of recent FIA decisions, calling out what he sees as a lack of sporting equity from the motorsport governing body. The Spanish driver expressed his frustration over perceived inconsistencies in how race control handles unexpected operational anomalies.

Sainz pointed to recent decisions made during race weekends, referencing previous events where formation lap chaos caused by software bugs led officials to revert the grid to its original order, bypassing standard regulations that dictated a different procedure.

The tension escalated during sprint qualifying at the Singapore Grand Prix, where an unfortunate human error during SQ1 meant that Overtake Mode was not activated once the session resumed following a red flag triggered by Sergio Perez. Although race control temporarily enabled it, the feature was quickly disabled again after just 27 seconds in an attempt to preserve fairness.

However, the intervention inadvertently created a significant disparity, advantaging certain drivers while severely penalizing others. Sainz, struggling under the lights at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, found himself on the losing end of the technical glitch to the tune of half a second, compounded by ongoing brake and tire issues carried over from the first practice session.

"Unfortunately, we had a really poor lap there," Sainz said after the session. "We only got one lap, and we had some issues with the brakes in FP1; we had to change them... and we were still having some brake issues — had a few lockups, struggling a lot with that and with the tyres."

As a director of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association, the Williams driver questioned why regulatory enforcement appears malleable depending on who is affected. He previously benefited from a similar reprieve alongside drivers like Lewis Hamilton, leading him to demand absolute transparency and consistency from the governing body moving forward.
