Carlos Sainz Clarifies Qatar and Abu Dhabi GP Comments for 2024

Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have once again sparked serious discussions within the Formula 1 paddock as the season approaches its final stretch. Following earlier concerns voiced by Max Verstappen a few weeks prior, Carlos Sainz became the latest driver to openly question the certainty of the upcoming season-ending races during a press conference.

Speaking to media members at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, the Spanish driver—acting in his capacity as a representative of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA)—shared his cautious outlook regarding the global landscape and its potential impact on the remainder of the racing calendar.

Despite raising these doubts, the driver who will switch to Williams next season emphasized that competitors would ultimately abide by whatever safety assessments and directives are issued by the governing body. Maintaining vigilance amid a rapidly shifting global environment remains a priority for the driver collective.

Following the media attention generated by his remarks, the Grove-based outfit quickly mobilized its press office to help issue a formal clarification, ensuring that the driver's stance was interpreted correctly by the international motorsports community.

Meanwhile, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem previously delivered a firm reassurance that the concluding rounds in the Gulf region will proceed strictly as planned. With robust safety measures in place, both the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix remain fully cemented on the official racing schedule.
