Cadillac Formula 1 Team has made a shock announcement: Marcin Budkowski has been appointed as its new Team Principal, replacing Graeme Lowdon. The decision comes midway through the American squad's debut F1 season, which has so far been a battle for points.
The news has certainly caught the paddock off guard. Lowdon had only just succeeded in building the team from scratch into the 11th entry on the grid. However, Cadillac insists the change is part of a "planned leadership transition" as the team evolves from its initial build-up phase to a focus on racing performance.
Dan Towriss, Cadillac's CEO, expressed his gratitude: "We're grateful to Graeme for his leadership and the role he played in forming the team from the ground up. His contributions helped establish a strong foundation, and we wish him well."
Budkowski, formerly a director at Alpine until 2022, immediately signaled a shift in priorities. He emphasized maximizing car development within the cost cap and fostering a winning culture. "This is a phase of huge opportunity. Starting at Zandvoort, we will align all elements to make the right decisions quickly," he said.
This move adds to the list of major changes in F1 2025. With only Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas at the wheel, Cadillac hopes Budkowski's experience will bring a performance leap in the second half of the season.
