Cadillac Formula 1 Team has reinforced its technical department with three high-profile signings: Craig Skinner, Eric Blandin, and Tim Lean. The move signals the American squad's serious intent to accelerate its development in Formula 1.
Craig Skinner, formerly Chief Designer at Red Bull Racing, joins as Chief Development Engineer. His arrival is expected to bring championship-winning expertise to Cadillac's engineering ranks. Eric Blandin, previously Deputy Technical Chief at Aston Martin, takes on the role of Head of Aerodynamics. Blandin's position will be crucial given the pivotal role of aerodynamics in the current ground-effect era.
Completing the trio is Tim Lean as Chief Engineer - Aerodynamics Modelling and Simulation. Lean brings a wealth of experience from McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferrari, and will report directly to Blandin. The combination reflects Cadillac's effort to build a solid and integrated technical foundation.
The appointments come after a major management shake-up. CEO Dan Towriss replaced Graeme Lowdon with Marcin Budkowski, former Alpine executive, during the summer break. Budkowski was immediately tasked with rectifying procedural issues that had plagued the team's operations and build quality. "These appointments represent a vital step in the technical evolution of the team," said Budkowski. "Bringing together experienced leadership across development, aerodynamics and modelling will help us create a stronger integrated technical organization and improve performance on track."
Cadillac made its debut as the 11th team this season with the Ferrari-powered MAC-26, driven by Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas. The team showed respectable pace, but management felt the need to step up development. The new hires are expected to bring a winning culture from their previous top teams.
Due to long lead times and gardening leave, Cadillac announced that all three will join in the coming months. They are projected to be fully involved in preparations for the 2027 season, Cadillac's sophomore campaign. Meanwhile, the team is establishing a new UK headquarters in Silverstone and a state-of-the-art base in Fishers, Indiana.
The signings also serve as a response to doubts regarding the team's ownership. Despite an investigation into Mark Walter, owner of majority shareholder TWG Global, Cadillac appears to be moving forward without hesitation. This move underscores their commitment to competing seriously in Formula 1.
