Nicolo Bulega once again proved his class at Magny-Cours. The Aruba.it Racing - Ducati rider won the Tissot Superpole Race on Sunday (6/9/2026), edging closer to the record for most wins in a single season.
Starting from pole gave Bulega no room to relax. His teammate, Iker Lecuona, applied pressure from the opening lap, even taking the lead before Bulega responded with a bold move at Turn 5.
Intense Duel Ends in a Blunder
The battle heated up on lap four. Lecuona tried to attack again but failed and ran wide. That opened the door for Sam Lowes to move into second, though Lecuona quickly reclaimed the spot.
From there, Bulega broke clear. The gap stretched to over 1.5 seconds, and the #11 rider controlled the race to the finish. It was his 25th win of the season, just two shy of the record of 27 victories in a year.
Drama Behind the Podium
On the other hand, Sam Lowes crashed on the final lap at Turn 3. He was taken to the medical centre and will start Race 2 from tenth. That promoted Yari Montella to third on the podium.
Montella was actually fighting with rookie Alberto Surra for fourth. Surra eventually finished fourth, matching his best result of the season. Meanwhile, Alex Lowes took fifth, and Tommy Bridewell bounced back from his Race 1 crash to claim sixth.
Further back, a Yamaha battle raged for eighth. Remy Gardner got past Xavi Vierge at the final chicane, leaving Vierge vulnerable to Andrea Locatelli behind. The gap was just 0.029s, but Vierge held on for ninth.
