Japanese tyre manufacturer Bridgestone is reportedly pushing hard to secure a surprise comeback to supply the Formula 1 world championship with tyres. Evidence of this growing ambition stems from company officials being spotted on-site at several grand prix weekends in recent months, keeping a close eye on the action at the rounds in Singapore and the United States.
At present, the Italian manufacturer Pirelli remains firmly entrenched as the exclusive tyre supplier to the motorsport pinnacle, a role they have held since 2011. Their current agreement runs securely through until at least the end of the 2028 campaign, encompassing the premier class alongside support categories including Formula 2, Formula 3, and F1 Academy.
The timeline for any potential new entrant was clarified back in June of this year when the governing body FIA officially exercised an option to extend the existing supply deal through to the conclusion of 2028. Consequently, this administrative milestone means that the 2029 season represents the absolute earliest opportunity for an alternative tyre manufacturer to successfully win the official tender.

A potential return would mark a significant homecoming for the brand, which last supplied the world championship grid back in 2010 before stepping aside. Historical records highlight their famous tyre war against Michelin between 1997 and 2006, followed by a successful tenure as the sole exclusive tyre supplier for four consecutive seasons starting in 2007.
Meanwhile, the broader motorsport landscape continues to witness shifting manufacturer commitments across various global series. The Japanese firm is scheduled to take over as the official tyre supplier for the Formula E world championship starting from the upcoming 2026/27 season, whereas their Italian counterpart is set to become the single tyre supplier for MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3, and MotoE beginning in 2027.
