Brian Uriarte set the pace in the second Moto3 practice session at the Red Bull Ring, mastering wet conditions to lead Joel Esteban and home rider Leo Rammerstorfer.
Overnight rain left the Austrian circuit damp for the start of the session. With air temperature at just 13 degrees Celsius and track temperature at 15, wet tyres were mandatory and many riders opted for caution. Leo Rammerstorfer was the first to venture out, but midway through only ten riders had set a valid lap time.
Joel Esteban briefly took the top spot before Uriarte moved ahead. In the final ten minutes, the sun peeked through but no dry line formed, ruling out slicks. Uriarte ultimately clocked a 1'47.740, beating Esteban by 0.270 seconds. Rammerstorfer delighted the Austrian fans with third, 0.558 seconds adrift.
Hakim Danish finished fourth, followed by Marcos Uriarte in fifth. Guido Pini, Matteo Bertelle, and Adrian Fernandez completed the top eight. Meanwhile, Alvaro Carpe played it safe and ended up thirteenth. Maximo Quiles, David Almansa, and David Munoz did not set a time; Munoz didn't even appear in his leathers.
The wet session tested patience and strategy, with teams weighing when to push ahead of qualifying. For Uriarte, this result provides valuable momentum, while Rammerstorfer proved he can compete in front of his home crowd.
With the weather still uncertain, qualifying promises to be intense. Riders must be prepared for any condition, and teams will need to carefully plan their tyre strategy. One thing is clear: the Moto3 battle in Austria is wide open.
