BMW Group has officially opened a brand-new high-voltage battery facility in Irlbach-Strasskirchen, Bavaria, kicking off series production for its latest lineup. The strategic plant is set to supply cutting-edge sixth-generation energy packs directly to the main Munich facility.
Backed by a massive investment of roughly one billion euros, the site underscores the German manufacturer's firm commitment to its domestic industrial roots. Spanning an impressive 60 hectares, the massive complex was completed in remarkably swift fashion following rigorous construction timelines.
These advanced energy units will serve the upcoming BMW i3 models built on the revolutionary Neue Klasse architecture. Driven by surging market demand, factory operations immediately ramped up to a dual-shift schedule right from day one of production.

The milestone was achieved following solid backing from local communities, highlighted by a successful public referendum held during the planning phases. This strategic expansion further cements BMW footprint across the eastern Bavarian manufacturing network.
