After nearly two months of summer break, Bimota is finally back on track. But don't call it a test—at least not according to Alex Lowes. The British rider stressed that the one-day session at Circuito de Navarra, Spain, on 27 August is more about shaking off the rust before the next round at Magny-Cours.
Lowes admitted he misses being on the KB998 Rimini. “I am looking forward to getting back out on the Bimota KB998 Rimini,” he said. “This is not really going to be a test; it's more about getting back up to speed before we start racing again in Magny-Cours. I am really looking forward to getting back with the guys to enjoy riding the bike, and then start to really focus on Magny-Cours next week. I have missed it.”
Axel Bassani also welcomed the opportunity. He said the long summer break felt like a winter break between two seasons. “We will get on the bike again to find the good feeling that we have had this season,” Bassani added. “We will do some laps of training and prepare the body for the next race weekend in France.”
Interestingly, Bimota has been the only manufacturer not to test at all during the break. Honda and BMW have already tested at Magny-Cours, and BMW even visited Estoril. With limited testing, Navarra becomes crucial for Bimota to ensure they remain competitive in the second half of the season.
The long gap has drawn criticism from former WorldSBK champion Toprak Razgatlioglu, now in MotoGP. At the British GP, he said the series needs more races in its calendar and admitted he was “bored” during his last two seasons there. That criticism highlights how a packed racing rhythm is key to keeping riders and teams in sync.
For Bimota, this warm-up session is not just a formality. It is a strategic move to ensure their rider duo returns with confidence and readiness for one of the most demanding circuits on the calendar, Magny-Cours. With only one day at Navarra, every lap counts to restore racing rhythm.
Will this strategy be enough to make Bimota immediately competitive in France? The answer will come when the lights go out on 4–6 September. But one thing is certain: the team's spirit is warm, and fans are surely eager to see them in action.
