Bezzecchi Tops MotoGP Aragon Friday Practice, Beats Marquez Brothers

Marco Bezzecchi asserted his credentials as a strong contender at the MotoGP Aragon Grand Prix by topping Friday practice, setting a new all-time lap record at the circuit. The Aprilia rider beat the impressive Marquez brothers, despite still nursing an injury sustained at the Sachsenring.

In a closely fought session, Bezzecchi clocked a 1m45.455s just two minutes before the end, snatching the top spot from Marc Marquez, who had been the pre-weekend favourite. Alex Marquez, Marc's teammate at Gresini, also impressed by taking second, just 0.010s behind Bezzecchi.

The tension was palpable from the start as Pedro Acosta on the KTM broke into the 1m46s bracket within the first 10 minutes—a significant improvement over FP1, where the fastest time was 1m47.532s. Marc Marquez quickly responded with a 1m46.320s, putting himself half a second clear of the rest.

In the final 15 minutes, Fermin Aldeguer, back from injury, stunned with a 1m45.909s to briefly take over the top spot. Marc then reclaimed the lead by breaking his own track record from 2025, before Bezzecchi emerged as the fastest of all at the end of the session.

With the top three separated by just 0.038s, the competition in Aragon is set to be intense. Fabio di Giannantonio of VR46 took fourth, followed by Aldeguer, while Raul Fernandez and Jorge Martin rounded out the top seven. Acosta had to settle for eighth, and Franco Morbidelli secured a direct Q2 spot with ninth.

Johann Zarco also deserves a mention, as he managed to break into the top 10 on his final lap after a three-month injury layoff. The LCR rider was the fastest Honda rider, edging out teammate Diogo Moreira and factory rider Luca Marini.
