Bezzecchi Smashes Silverstone Lap Record, Bagnaia Slips to Q1

Marco Bezzecchi returned to MotoGP action in the most unforgettable way. Marco Bezzecchi set a blistering 1:56.280 in Practice for the British GP, obliterating the Silverstone lap record by nearly a second. This, just weeks after injuries from crashes at Assen and Sachsenring threatened his season.

Bezzecchi was aggressive from the start, leading the session early, then wisely pitting to conserve energy after the first 25 minutes. When he returned for the final run, he produced a stunning lap, with a jaw-dropping final sector. As he crossed the line, his garage erupted, and the team greeted him with warm embraces.

“I didn’t expect to be this fast. The body still hurts, but adrenaline helps,” he said, wearing a tired smile.

Aprilia’s dominance at Silverstone is undeniable. Four of the top five positions belong to the Noale factory. Raul Fernandez followed in second, three-tenths behind, Jorge Martin fourth, and Ai Ogura fifth. Only Fabio Di Giannantonio managed to sneak into third, making him the fastest Ducati rider.

Marc Marquez started the weekend in sixth, while his brother Alex was just 17 milliseconds behind. Joan Mir, Jack Miller, and Pedro Acosta rounded out the top ten. But the spotlight was on Francesco Bagnaia.

The Ducati Lenovo rider could only manage 13th, 1.4 seconds off the pace. Bagnaia even crashed at Brooklands while pushing for time. That incident forces him through Q1, a major setback for the title contender.

“We have a rear grip issue. We need to work tonight,” Bagnaia said, with frustration in his voice.

With this performance, Bezzecchi is clearly a serious threat. But races aren’t won on Fridays. Can he maintain this form? Qualifying and the sprint will tell.
