MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Marco Bezzecchi, Aprilia Factory Racing rider, believes Marc Marquez is the only rider who can afford to relax at the 2025 Catalan MotoGP. With a commanding 175-point lead in the championship, Marquez dominates the season, while Bezzecchi and others face intense pressure to close the gap at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit.
Marquez’s Dominance in 2025 Season
Bezzecchi acknowledged that Marquez’s massive points lead allows him a unique sense of ease. “Only Marc can relax a bit because he has so many points,” Bezzecchi said. Marquez, riding for Ducati, has been unbeaten since Silverstone in May, boasting a 14-race win streak. Despite Barcelona not being his strongest track, Marquez remains a formidable contender, especially after a close second-place finish in last November’s race with Gresini Racing.
Bezzecchi praised Marquez’s quick adaptation to the Ducati GP25. “He was fast right away with the new bike. That shows his talent,” he noted. Meanwhile, Bezzecchi, new to Aprilia, is still adjusting to the RS-GP, though he secured pole in Austria and second in Hungary’s qualifying.
Bezzecchi’s Challenges at Barcelona-Catalunya
Bezzecchi highlighted the Barcelona circuit’s demanding nature, with its mix of fast and slow corners. “It’s a tough track, but Aprilia has always been strong here,” he said, referencing Aprilia’s sprint win in 2024 and grand prix victory in 2023 with Aleix Espargaro. However, Bezzecchi admitted he needs to improve his single-lap pace to compete in qualifying, as shown by teammate Jorge Martin.
Bezzecchi’s focus is on building consistency and leveraging Aprilia’s track record at Barcelona. “We need to work hard to stay in the front group. Marquez has the advantage, but we won’t give up,” he emphasized. Support from the team, led by Massimo Rivola, is crucial for optimizing bike performance.
Fierce Competition and Race Prospects
Beyond Marquez, Bezzecchi is wary of Francesco Bagnaia, who won the last two Barcelona races. “Pecco is very strong here, and Aprilia has a good history too,” he said. With Marquez poised to clinch the world title at Misano if he outscores Alex Marquez by at least 10 points in Barcelona, the pressure on other riders intensifies.
Bezzecchi aims to capitalize on the weekend to showcase progress with Aprilia. “We want to be competitive and close to the podium. This is a key step for the season,” he stated. With a challenging circuit and fierce competition, the Catalan results will be a vital benchmark for Bezzecchi and Aprilia.
The 2025 Catalan MotoGP will test Bezzecchi’s ability to challenge Marquez’s dominance. With Aprilia’s technical support and strong track history, he is optimistic about competing in the leading group. Moving forward, Bezzecchi will focus on improving qualifying and maximizing the bike’s potential to secure crucial points, laying a solid foundation for the next season.
