Marco Bezzecchi arrived at MotorLand Aragon with pole position after breaking Marc Marquez's track record. However, that euphoria lasted only until the lights went out. At the first corner of the MotoGP sprint race, he had to let Marc Marquez pass, who eventually won the race, followed by Alex Marquez. Bezzecchi had to settle for third place, admitting that Marquez's speed in decision-making made the difference.
“It was a positive day for me. Staying ahead at Turn 1 would definitely have helped, but Marc is very good at these things. He is very fast at making decisions, so I expected it. I didn't even want to take a risk. Maybe I braked a bit too early, and that's the only thing I can complain about all day. But anyway, my pace today was this, and I finished third. Maybe staying ahead would have changed something, but my pace was the same anyway. I think the others had a bit more power,” Bezzecchi told media, including Motosan.es.
Aprilia's decision to use a soft rear tire was under scrutiny. Bezzecchi admitted he hoped to exploit the tire's advantage, but failing to lead early made things difficult. Nevertheless, he doesn't regret the choice. “I expected to do a bit better. Unfortunately, at the start I couldn't stay ahead, so I couldn't fully exploit the advantages of that tire. After a few laps, I had more difficulties than them. But I don't regret the choice, I think it was the right one for me at that moment. Now it's easy to say that a medium tire would have been better, and I'm not even sure I would have gotten a much better result with it. Honestly, I'm more convinced I could have done even worse. I'm happy with the soft,” he explained.
Bezzecchi is still recovering from a serious injury at Sachsenring, where he fractured his left collarbone and also affected his knee. He admitted physical issues remain, but he enjoyed the sprint race and qualifying. “The main problem is still my left knee. I had fun, it was tough, yes, but I had fun. I had fun this morning and also this afternoon,” he added.
With this result, Bezzecchi shows he remains competitive in front of his home crowd, despite having to acknowledge the superiority of Marc Marquez in the fierce duel. He now looks to the main race with optimism, hoping to improve his start and hold position at the first corner. The battle at the top of MotoGP is getting more interesting, and Ducati and Aprilia will fight hard for the rest of the season.
