Marco Bezzecchi has warned that he will still be 'suffering' at this weekend's MotoGP Aragon Grand Prix as his left knee injury has not fully healed. The Aprilia Racing rider admitted that fluid build-up in his knee is making it difficult to bend, a major challenge at a circuit expected to favor rivals Ducati.
Bezzecchi suffered a violent highside at Sachsenring two months ago, resulting in a broken collarbone and knee injury. Despite successful surgery and a summer break aiding recovery, the Italian is not yet fully fit. His impressive Silverstone performance, where he secured a double podium and moved to second in the standings, showed he can still be competitive while injured.
However, Aragon is believed to be more favorable for Ducati, which has six bikes on the grid. Bezzecchi knows the challenge will be tougher. "Silverstone was good, but it was also super tough. After the race weekend, I was struggling especially with my knee," he said. "My left knee is still a big problem. Unfortunately, this injury takes a long time to heal, and riding is not the best painkiller."
Bezzecchi also highlighted the fierce competition ahead. "Marc [Marquez] will be super fast, but every Ducati rider will be fast. So, I will try to survive and bring home the maximum I can," he added. With 10 races remaining in 14 weekends, the congested calendar makes recovery difficult, especially during flyaway rounds in Asia-Pacific.
The 10-time grand prix winner explained that his shoulder is healing well, but the main issue is his left knee, which required separate surgery. "My knee is creating fluid inside, so it becomes difficult to bend the leg and push on the foot peg," he explained. "I'm doing everything I can to recover as quickly as possible, but I will have to suffer. In the end, it is what it is."
With his physical condition not yet optimal, Bezzecchi is predicted to struggle for the top positions at Aragon. However, his determination to remain competitive is commendable. Will he be able to challenge for the podium again? We will see this weekend.
