Dino Beganovic finally broke through. The DAMS driver claimed his first Formula 2 feature race win in dominant fashion, leading every lap from pole and mastering two safety car restarts to finish over seven seconds clear of Rodin Motorsport’s Alex Dunne. At the brand-new Madring circuit, Beganovic showcased exactly why he’s a Ferrari junior on the rise.
This race belonged to the Swede. From the moment the lights went out, he locked up Turn 1 and steadily pulled away from Dunne, who had his mirrors full of Rafael Camara. While Beganovic cruised out front, chaos unfolded behind. Championship leaders Nikola Tsolov and Camara both faltered, blowing the points battle wide open.
The first safety car appeared after just one lap. Kush Maini hit the wall at Turn 18 following contact with AIX Racing’s Cian Shields, who received a 10-second penalty. Once racing resumed, Beganovic immediately stretched his legs, while Camara lost momentum and found himself tangled with Martinius Stenshorne.
Tsolov, starting on the hard tyre, struggled for grip and had to fight hard to keep Roman Bilinski at bay. Strategy became crucial. When the pit window opened, Prema’s Mari Boya dived in and flew on softs. Camara and Tsolov followed, but their decisions didn’t pay off as hoped.
The flashpoint came when Camara attempted a move on Oliver Goethe around the outside of Turn 1. The two made contact, sending Goethe into the barriers, and Camara was slapped with a 10-second penalty. That incident buried any chance of a strong result and highlighted how treacherous Madring can be.
Behind, Ritomo Miyata capped a strong weekend. After winning the sprint race, the Hitech driver added a podium in third, proving his consistency at the new venue. Beganovic has now sent a clear message: he’s ready to mix it at the front.
