The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is reportedly set to host a round of the IndyCar Series starting from next season, as first revealed by El Periodico. The former home of the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix has agreed to a multi-year deal to stage an IndyCar event beginning in 2027, with the inaugural race scheduled to take place in July.
This major development comes on the heels of significant calendar adjustments that see Barcelona absent from the F1 schedule next season. The venue will remain on the championship calendar until 2032 through a yearly rotation agreement with the Belgian Grand Prix, ensuring F1 cars will return to the Catalan circuit in 2028, 2030, and 2032.
The shift follows the relocation of the Spanish Grand Prix to Madrid, which led to the Barcelona round being rebranded as the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix—a memorable venue where Lewis Hamilton secured his historic first victory for Ferrari. Now, the iconic circuit is poised to embrace American open-wheel racing.

The agreement represents phenomenal news for five-time champion Alex Palou, who will finally have the opportunity to race in front of his home crowd on Spanish soil. The 29-year-old enters his home event as the reigning IndyCar champion after clinching his fifth title during the 2026 campaign.
Palou's extraordinary milestone marked his fourth consecutive championship and fifth title in six seasons, cementing his legacy as the first Spanish driver to conquer American single-seater racing and win the legendary Indianapolis 500. This landmark event also signifies IndyCar's first race outside of North America since the Sao Paulo Indy 300 in Brazil back in 2013.
