Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Organisers of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix have responded after Formula 1 confirmed the cancellation of both events from the 2026 calendar due to the escalating crisis in the Middle East.
The two races were scheduled to host the fourth and fifth rounds of the season, standing as the only grands prix planned for April. Bahrain was set to stage the event at the Bahrain International Circuit, while the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was due to take place at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
However, worsening geopolitical tensions across the region forced Formula 1 and the governing body to take action in the interest of safety. On Saturday evening it was confirmed that both races would not go ahead in April, and no replacement venues have been scheduled to fill the gap in the calendar.

Chief Executive of the Bahrain International Circuit, Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, expressed full support for the decision taken by Formula 1 and the FIA.
“We fully support the decision by Formula 1, and we are grateful to them and to the FIA for their support and enduring partnership. We look forward to welcoming fans from all around the world back to Bahrain when Formula 1 returns,” he said.
Chairman of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal, also acknowledged the ruling and stressed the continued partnership with the championship.
“The Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation respect the decision taken by Formula 1 regarding the 2026 race calendar. Fans across the Kingdom were once again looking forward to the Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah this April, but we understand the considerations behind this decision.”
With the two April rounds removed, the championship calendar will now feature a five-week break following the Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka Circuit. The 2026 Formula 1 season will then resume with the Miami Grand Prix at the Miami International Autodrome.
