Bagnaia Admits Japan Frustration: Rear Grip Issues Limit Pace

The Japanese Grand Prix weekend left a bitter pill for Pecco Bagnaia to swallow. The factory rider from Borgo Panigale admitted he could not extract maximum performance at Motegi, after continually struggling with rear-end grip issues aboard his Ducati machine throughout the entire racing weekend.

According to reports via Motosan.es, the Italian rider openly confessed that his squad made a crucial strategic miscalculation before the main race. The decision not to test the hard rear compound proved to be a costly mistake, especially given that Motegi's newly resurfaced layout and distinct track conditions ultimately made the hard tire a far more competitive option than initially anticipated.

"I already knew we were going to have difficulties, and I leave knowing I gave everything I had. So, it's fine, I accept it," the Turin native explained as relayed by collaborator Manuel Pecino. He further added, "It was a mistake, because we've already had a similar situation in the past where the hard was the best. That's why it's always important to test everything before the race. It was our fault for not doing it."

Beyond the tire choice dilemma, the persistent lack of rear grip severely limited Pecco Bagnaia's race options. Analyzing the weekend's telemetry data revealed a stark performance gap to the pacesetters. "Looking at the weekend's data, I can't do what the fastest riders do. It's a pity. I already had some difficulties at other circuits last year, so I had forgotten my speed a little bit," he lamented.

This frustration was amplified by the contrast with his strong memories from Motegi last season. Nevertheless, amid the intense championship battle at the top of the standings involving Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin, Pecco Bagnaia remains focused on regrouping with his team for the final stretch of the season.
