The Formula 1 paddock at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez was sent into a frenzy following a drastic lineup change implemented by the Haas team ahead of the final practice session. Team principal Ayao Komatsu opted to remain tight-lipped, refusing to shed any light on the controversial decision to bench Esteban Ocon for the remainder of the weekend.
The bombshell announcement dropped on Saturday morning, confirming that the French driver would be replaced by reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa for the rest of the event. The sudden move instantly sparked rampant speculation across the paddock, particularly after team officials clarified that the absence was entirely unrelated to any illness.
Appearing as a designated guest pundit during the broadcast to discuss the on-track action, Komatsu faced heavy questioning regarding the sudden driver swap. When directly asked to explain the situation, he offered very little clarity, stating only that his driver was not sick and refusing to elaborate further on internal matters.

Rumors had heavily circulated suggesting that an animated radio exchange during Friday practice regarding the team's run plans might have contributed to the axing. However, when pressed on whether the friction played a part in the decision, the Japanese team boss politely declined to go into any specific details.
Looking ahead to the upcoming rounds on the demanding 2026 calendar, Komatsu maintained that the squad's immediate priority remained locked on extracting maximum performance from the current session on track rather than dwelling on future driver availability dilemmas.
