Defending champion Ash Sutton has officially put an end to persistent exit rumors by signing a bumper five-year contract extension to remain with NAPA Racing UK in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). The groundbreaking announcement secures the star driver's immediate and long-term future following a campaign defined by historic dominance and record-breaking statistics.
The 2026 season has arguably etched itself as the greatest individual performance witnessed in the series for decades, highlighted by the largest race-winning margin of 19 seconds since Alain Menu back in 1999. Kickstarting the year with three victories and three runner-up finishes across Donington National and Brands Indy, the NAPA pacesetter maintained an extraordinary momentum that kept him firmly at the summit of the standings.
Rival challengers such as Tom Ingram faced an uphill battle as Sutton's relentless consistency punished any slip-ups. Despite suffering his sole non-finish of the year at Croft—where he had already secured a podium and a victory in the opening two heats—the championship lead remained heavily in his control before ultimately clinching a record-breaking fifth drivers' crown at Silverstone.

With history written at Silverstone, many paddock insiders anticipated that the season finale at Brands Hatch GP would mark Sutton's final outing in the NAPA-backed Ford machine. Instead, a surprise long-term commitment was revealed, ensuring that the driver and his title-winning squad will continue their partnership for another five years.
Reflecting on the massive milestone agreement, the BTCC dominator expressed his utmost delight to secure his racing future early. Speaking to Motorsport Week, he emphasized the value of maintaining team continuity in such a fiercely competitive touring car environment.
"I'm over the moon to agree a new contract to continue my journey in the British Touring Car Championship for the next five years," Sutton stated. Over the past five seasons, the team has achieved immense success, shattered numerous records, and made history together on the tarmac.
He further noted that having his future guaranteed at this early stage provides the ideal platform for a rigorous winter testing programme. With no intentions of slowing down, the newly signed champion aims to return stronger than ever as the championship continues to evolve.
