Kimi Antonelli topped the timesheets in the third free practice session (FP3) for the Spanish Grand Prix, but the session was marred by two crashes involving Lewis Hamilton and Oliver Bearman. The session at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit was briefly red-flagged following Hamilton's incident.
The first incident occurred when Hamilton, the Ferrari driver, locked up under braking and hit the barrier. His car came to a stop on the side of the track, forcing marshals to deploy the red flag. After Hamilton's car was recovered, the session resumed with just over 15 minutes remaining. Shortly after the restart, Bearman of Haas lost control and crashed into the wall in the closing moments of FP3.
Despite the disruptions, Antonelli managed to stay focused and set the fastest time. The young driver's impressive performance is a positive sign ahead of qualifying. Meanwhile, the Audi duo of Gabi Bortoleto and Nico Hulkenberg were the first to leave the pit exit, demonstrating the team's readiness for the session. Carlos Sainz also had a close call at Turn 7 but managed to keep his Williams out of the wall.
With this result, Antonelli has established himself as a strong contender for pole position. Hamilton and Bearman will need to bounce back quickly and ensure their cars are ready for qualifying. The qualifying session will be the true test for the drivers as they tackle the challenging Barcelona circuit that demands high precision.
