Kimi Antonelli asserted his dominance in the second practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix at the Madring circuit with a time of 1m33.662s, but the session was marred by a crash involving Arvid Lindblad that triggered a red flag.
The incident occurred when Lindblad lost the rear of his Racing Bulls car while entering Turn 13, the slow left-hander after the banked La Monumental corner, with 25 minutes remaining. The driver reported he was OK and apologised to the team. Before the crash, he was running fourth, while Esteban Ocon's Haas was eighth, 0.977s behind, highlighting the competitiveness of the midfield.
The red flag stopped the session for nearly 15 minutes, and with only 12 minutes left afterwards, most drivers could not improve their times. George Russell, who topped FP1, had to settle for fifth after running mediums post-red flag, while Antonelli continued to lead ahead of the two Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who were 0.113s and 0.149s adrift.

Max Verstappen of Red Bull led Oscar Piastri of McLaren, with Yuki Tsunoda of Racing Bulls the best of the midfield in eighth. Verstappen's teammate Liam Lawson completed the top 10 despite complaining of a lack of rear grip and hitting the wall.
Lando Norris had a poor session. He completed only two laps, neither at speed, after gearbox issues where he found a false neutral. Extensive work was done on the rear of the car throughout the session, and the lost time will be even more crucial given the track is new.
Fernando Alonso also had pre-session clutch issues, but he did get out on track to set the 17th-best time, splitting the Williams. Lance Stroll had a late issue in the other Aston Martin and was told to slow down.
With this result, Antonelli has shown he is a serious threat for the Spanish Grand Prix, while Lindblad's crash serves as a reminder that the Madring circuit, labelled a 'car killer', demands full concentration. The midfield battle is intensifying, and qualifying is predicted to be fierce.
