Kimi Antonelli continues to assert his dominance in Formula 1 2026. His victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, aided by a Virtual Safety Car (VSC) period, serves as clear evidence that the young Mercedes driver is becoming increasingly unstoppable. That win delivered a heavy blow to his closest rivals, including teammate George Russell and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Antonelli now leads the championship by 81 points over Russell, with Hamilton trailing by 101 points and Lando Norris by 106. With 14 grands prix remaining, the title hopes of Russell and Hamilton are growing dimmer. Russell admitted his chances are slim. "I'm not going to say it's over, but it's exceptionally unlikely that I'm in this fight," he said after finishing fifth at the Madring. "I'm not even thinking about being in the fight because I don't think I am in the fight."
Russell's statement marks a significant shift from a few months ago when he was still trying to play mind games with Antonelli. Now, the British driver seems resigned and has chosen to focus on winning races. Meanwhile, Hamilton is also struggling to maintain consistent performance with Ferrari, which has yet to match Mercedes' level this season.

Antonelli's dominance is partly due to Mercedes' hard work. After facing questions about their development, Mercedes bounced back and returned to competitiveness. Victories at Monza and Madrid prove they have overcome reliability and performance issues. Toto Wolff, who was under pressure, can now smile seeing his protege shine.
However, threats could still come from Ferrari and McLaren. Frederic Vasseur, Ferrari's team boss, insisted his team will keep pushing until the end of the season with upgrades. “We will push until the end with upgrades, because we also stand... [TRUNCATED],” he told Autosport. But with Mercedes' solid performance and Antonelli's consistency, the championship seems within reach.
For Formula 1 fans, this season offers a different narrative. While last year we saw surprises from Max Verstappen, now we witness the dominance of a young driver who is flawless. Kimi Antonelli has become a new force ready to make history. Will he continue this positive trend until the end of the season? We shall see.
