Kimi Antonelli believes the yellow flag procedure during qualifying for the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix should be reviewed following the controversy triggered by Max Verstappen's crash at Turn 9.
Antonelli had held provisional pole at the Red Bull Ring before dropping to third after the Ferrari drivers completed their final laps. The situation then changed when Verstappen hit the barrier, bringing out yellow flags while Antonelli and George Russell were still on flying laps.
Antonelli believed double yellow flags had been shown and aborted his lap. However, only single yellow flags were displayed at that stage, meaning drivers only needed to lift rather than abandon the lap.

"I think double yellows would have been enough, because you just need to abort the lap, but for sure it is something that needs to be reviewed."
"Especially when it happens in a high-speed corner. If it's a slow speed, still, a single yellow can be okay, but for a fast corner, it should be double yellow straightaway."
Russell continued after lifting through the yellow flag zone and went on to claim pole position. Antonelli dropped to fourth behind Russell, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
"There was a car in the wall on a fast corner, so I think, in this situation, I don't know why it didn't go double yellow straight away because it's a super quick corner, and if you go off at the same time, it can end up very badly. So a bit confusing, but it is what it is."
