Junior formula racing delivered exceptional on-track drama as Anthony Amato put on a masterclass performance to secure a commanding victory in the third heat of the Walter Hayes Trophy. Piloting his car for Ammonite Motorsport, the pole-sitter controlled the race from the initial start and never looked back.
While Amato checked out at the front, an intense battle for the remaining podium places kept spectators on the edge of their seats. KC Ensor-Smith of KMR Sport managed a brilliant launch off the line to briefly challenge Amato, but the polesitter firmly slammed the door shut exiting the opening complex to establish an early gap.
The real fireworks came from Megan Gilkes representing Team Dolan, who put on a breathtaking overtaking showcase. Gilkes carved her way through the traffic with late-braking maneuvers and slipstreaming tactics down the Wellington Straight, engaging in fierce multi-car battles with Tom Nippers and Maris Schulte.
As the race reached its chaotic conclusion dealing with backmarkers, Amato cruised home over 6.5 seconds clear of the chasing pack. Post-race time penalties shuffled the order significantly, allowing veteran machinery to shine as Felix Fisher brought his 36-year-old Van Diemen RF90 home for TM Racing.
