Alex Rins has provided a thorough explanation regarding his heated exchange with a trackside marshal during a bizarre misunderstanding on Friday at the Indonesian Grand Prix. The Yamaha factory rider was caught on camera showing his middle finger after a crash at the final corner left him stranded on track.
The incident unfolded immediately after Rins tumbled off his machine, prompting him to seek a quick return to the paddock to resume his on-track program. Several trackside volunteers were ready with scooters, but a lack of clear communication quickly turned the routine recovery procedure into a chaotic dispute.
Confusion mounted as multiple marshals reportedly argued over transport instructions. Rins initially hopped onto the back of one scooter, only to be dropped off midway before reaching the team garage, triggering a flashpoint of frustration under the intense pressure of a grand prix weekend.

Reflecting on the episode after Saturday's sprint race, Rins detailed the exact sequence of events to media. As reported by Crash.net, he stated, "It was really strange. It was really strange, because I crashed at the last corner. There were two, three marshals there, ready with the scooter. And they were fighting, [saying], 'Come with me, no come with me'. So, I jumped on one bike. He made the main straight and then he left me there."
Elaborating further on the breakdown in communication regarding how he should reach the pits, Rins added, "Then I said, 'No, no, the box!'. He said, 'Jump in the car'. And I said, 'No, you need to bring me to the box'. And then there were two marshals there who were saying, 'Go to the box'. And he was saying, 'No, no'. And then in this nervous moment, I gave him the finger. I apologised, because it's not a good sign. The young fans are looking at us; it's not a good sign to do. But I was really stressed."
Despite the optical fallout from the viral video, Rins escaped official sporting penalties after holding a brief discussion with FIM stewards, who acknowledged the unusual nature of the protocol failure.
"We had a quick chat," Rins concluded. "It was just a misunderstanding. Sure, it's the first time it happened. The stewards were surprised also. Strange."
