Alex Marquez Tops British MotoGP FP1, Bezzecchi Returns Strong

Alex Marquez made an immediate statement in opening practice for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, setting the fastest lap of 1m58.692s to lead Marco Bezzecchi by 0.173s.

The spotlight was on Bezzecchi's return from a collarbone injury sustained in Germany. The Aprilia rider looked sharp from the start, slotting into second and outpacing Pedro Acosta, who was the only crasher in the session after a spill at Stowe.

Silverstone has a knack for producing different winners—11 in the last 11 editions of the British GP. Alex Marquez, a previous sprint winner here, clearly has his sights set on adding a full victory. His early pace suggests he'll be a factor all weekend.

Behind the leading trio, Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse Aprilia) took fourth, with Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati) fifth. Marc Marquez could only manage sixth on the factory Ducati, while championship leader Jorge Martin languished in eighth.

The midfield is incredibly tight. Pecco Bagnaia rounded out the top ten, Joan Mir was the top Honda in 11th, and Fabio Quartararo led Yamaha in 15th. With more sessions to come, this is just the first glimpse of the competitive order at Silverstone.
